Can i carry a semi automatic in my car?

hi im 18 and i live in virginia and i found a hobbie of going to the shooting rand a couple times a week. i have a wasr 10 (it kinda looks like a ak47) and in virginia you can be 18 and get a semi automatic or a shotgun. so i wanted to know is my semi alright in my car. i always keep it in their for protection but is it legal? is it illegal to have a shot gun in my trunk or under my seat will i get charged?
