What book is this? author only wrote this one book before dying in a car/motorcycle accident with his wife...?

i was just at barnes and noble checking out with my three books (atlas shrugged by ayn rand and fight club and choke both by chuck palahniuk) and the cashier suggested that if i liked Palahniuk i should look up this other book called something like.....i'm so far down that i'm looking up.....i think.....and he said the author only got the chance to write that one book before dying in a motorcycle accident (or it may have been a car accident) with his wife. anyone know what book it was ?
